Fauna

The flora is closely linked to the fauna: the presence of certain animals depends on the kind of vegetation growing in the area. For example, reed beds emerge among rushes and sedges from the Rock of Garda to Desenzano to create the ideal habitat for insects, freshwater molluscs and certain kinds of fish. Not just the shore, but higher altitudes, too, provide shelter for animal species. There are many different land-animal species: thousands of invertebrates (insects, molluscs, spiders, etc.) and between 240 and 250 species of vertebrates.
